City Planter is a garden center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is listed at 814 N 4th St, Philadelphia, PA 19123, which places it among the local businesses of Philadelphia that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as landscaper, so it may cover more than the name suggests.
In Philadelphia, garden centers are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have more time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in Pennsylvania, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Many nurseries close or shorten hours in winter, so check the listing for current hours and Google rating before you go.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 10 amβ6 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (215) 627-6169. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is cityplanter.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Customers rate it 4.7 out of 5 on Google across 220 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded garden centers in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Philadelphia follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Their collection and condition of plants changed my standards for other plant shops. Nothing crazy, but everything youβd expect from a plant shop with workers who know their stuff and how to properly take care of the greenery Theyβre also one of the few plant shops in Philly that had prices and availability on their website, I felt like I could plan ahead and knew what to expect. The ladies I encountered were friendly and seemed knowledgeable, and gave another customer plant recommendations based off of what they were working with and lighting conditions. Good experience, will be coming back.

Great vibe! Excellent staff and selection of every indoor plant you could want. Lots of pots available and each plant has care tips.

The City Planter is a wonderful quaint indoor and outdoor green space with a great collection of tropical plants. My wife and I enjoyed the many funky plant displays and good conversation. The horticultural professionals were very friendly and helpful. The space inspires new ideas for my landscaping business.

City Planter is a fabulous plant shop. They carry a nice variety of plants, both common and not so common. The shop is well maintained and decorative. The customer service was good. The woman was definitely helpful. Itβs pricier than most other places Iβve been. It is one of the best places to buy plants in Philly. I will be going back.

My rating is based mostly on my experience with customer service, which is usually the most important thing to me as a customer. I choose to visit City Planter based on the great reviews and it being only a 6 minute drive from work. I went on my lunch break. Upon arrival I was not greeted nor did the two women staff ask if I needed assistance. Granted, one of the staff was on the phone when I arrived. But as I got closer to the counter neither were occupied nor bothered to say hello or offer assistance. What really led to my not so great experience; is that while I was checking out, 1 or 2 men entered the store and was promptly greeted by both women staff. Which made me realize how strange it was that I was never greeted. I will never return to this establishment. As I was checking out the cashier was kinda nice, not sure if it was only because I was making a purchase. I only made a purchase because after circling the block several times trying to find parking in the rain, I refused to leave without a plant. Other than the experience, the plant shop was rather nice. Many varieties of plants to choose from. The prices were pretty fair and the plants seemed to have been maintaine
